How Do I by Kate Demeree
Find rest now, in the bed where we loved Shut out memories of your hands, touching Your lips searing, the weight of your body It's imprint on the sheets and my life The warmth that is gone Cold emptiness all that remains
How can I find peace in a house Where every room holds a memory Your laugh at some silly little scene We sat side by side and viewed The sofa where my hands first mapped The outline of your back, every pain Every scar, so well known now, that I see them with my eyes closed
Nothing tastes the same There is no joy in cooking for one Meals are left uneaten on the table we shared The fridge is filled with food I prepared, Eagerly, lovingly for you, sitting now Growing green and brown and blue I can not find the strength to throw it away
How do I lie down at night on the pillow Where you rested your head, and I whispered Words you never wanted to hear, while you slept Rise in the morning and find a way to still shaking hands Long enough to put on the mascara and blush Keep the tears at bay so they do not wash it all away
How do I

Posted by Bob Arcania on 10/12/03 at 08:45 PM This is nice. The last two lines, please get rid of them. The rest of the poem bascially bears this message, and they are so overused in your typical heart-broken poetry. The mask with a painted smile is bordering on cliche, as well. Otherwise, it all feels good. I think you could strengthen the imagery up a bit, rather than just writing it out story-like, make it a bit more fragmented. It might reflect the feelings a bit more that way, as well. As it is, it is more a story with line breaks than a poem. But that's just my opinion of it. |

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 11/23/04 at 01:51 PM How do I? you ask? I think you have and done rather well with the course you've taken. perhaps love was not found there but perhaps you should go to a park and round and round a tree discover that love walks in circles. what can I say but pray one beloved rush love to you and swift. |
