Third floor window

by Amy Niggel

The sky hangs low today,
it seems I may touch it if I only run to the horizon.
Clouds stainding painfully still
bearing a strong resemblence to a painted backdrop I once knew
but that was long ago
when I was still on the stage.
and the sun almost makes me miss singing,
almost because then I remember the paralyzing grip
stage fright.
And what of the world outside today?
It seems sunny
though I know it is surely raining
for the weatherman promised me a thundershower today.
It looks warm
despite the small white flakes dancing past.
And there is a sinking feeling in my stomach
though that may just be the cafeteria food
never can be completely certain of things like that.
But the sky is blue
and hanging delightfully low
so I may just run to the horizon
grab hold of a rainbow
and travel around for a while.
I'll write if I find no work
for writing is more a passion than a job.

I really like this poem Amy. A good mixture of spiritual light and darkness. As is sometimes the case with all of us, you overdo it a bit at the end. I'd drop those last three lines; more powerful/positive closure with: grab hold of a rainbow.
