Induce Ascension by Jason WardellWith a cosmic realization during calculus,
I see in rays. Light bends through space
'round my mass in countless dots and the
unenlightened fools stare in wonder.
I then stand wide-eyed and sweating,
heartrate swift, hands tremble, I shout
and throw myself at the mercy
of the daydreaming masses. We pray
for ascension, for ascension!
With a flame rising through my chest
I lose sight, fade through all existence,
all time, all space; light rays bend 'round
and I awaken to the taste of bile.
Keel over the garbage can and take note:
undercooked chicken will not induce nirvana.
You will not finally meet salmonella ascension.
You will only get out of class for the day.

Posted by Richard Paez on 09/30/03 at 05:05 PM Ascension in terms of reverse peristalsis- although the ending was jarringly far from what I expected, I am both amused and impressed! I love how the ending parallels what one experiences after an acid trip- "what the hell was I talking about?!?" Great writing throughout: the intensity increases like fever till the speaker pops and spills his guts at the end. Thanks for sharing this! {m} |

Posted by Don Coffman on 10/01/03 at 09:25 PM You have interesting daydreams, Mr. O. ;) And you made a comment in a particular youknowwhere about stellar imagery (or something like that), and I must say you've got it down exceptionally well, too. Funny though, I never thought of chicken as a hallucinogenic. ;) |
