a natural perspective, the self esteem rooted.

by Andrew S Adams

i've mastered the art of self deception,
painted my walls so green and blue that the
nature would flow right through me,
so that i could believe in my own oneness.

i've told myself alot of lies,
and i cant be accountable for every one-
denial can have its advantages, too.

i walked every day through my modern forest-
what were the trees supposed to be?
it's natural for me to think that mirrors
hung on branches.

i fell in love with the distance,
gazing off to the stars,
calling to a land that would never echo back to me.

silly boy, the trees will never leave you,
and your face will never escape their rapture.

entwined, this earth and i,
well, i'm rooted here forever
but i will grow upward, green.
the mirrors higher up, well they
make it easier to lookmyself in the eye.

and maybe, i figure,
my denial had some disadvantages, too.

Author's Note: i updated the ending (mainly, tacked on the last 2 stanzas), and i like it alot more.
