Blood Diamonds by Kitty NessYou bought me a ring
of blood diamonds,
unearthed with the sweat
of miners working for
their lives.
It shone like alabaster
on an African
beach, and camouflaged
the dangers that
hid in the sand.
At around age five, a
child's mind rewires
its memories. Losing
the ability to recall,
moments are lost in tissue.
Only I did it twice,
a second programming
of neurons and precious
situations. You sank
into my brain.
It's impossible to
recognize memories of you.
Now your blood diamonds
sit on the shore
among the thorns. 09/22/2003 Posted on 09/23/2003 Copyright © 2025 Kitty Ness

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 04/21/04 at 03:22 PM Thought provoking poem. I've always found diamonds to be overrated...just try reselling them, and se how little you get. Congrats on POTD. |
