Contemptus Mundi

by Adrian Calhoun

A black cloud hangs lowly,
covering the world as if in a veil.
We mourn the passing of a basic human right,
the ability to speak open and freely.
Honestly discussing the matters
on our hearts and minds.

Common sense was soundly defeated
in a landslide by free choice.
While in the background,
the banshees gather for all.
The jackals gnaw on the bones
of those who betrayed it.

From the point of no return,
there is no turning back.
And we have clearly crossed over.

A vain attempt to blind
is thrust upon us,
once the innocence is lost.

The flames may swallow us whole,
but the screams of those
who failed the human race never die.

Yes, indeed. It's awfully frustrating whe one's freedoms are taken away. The only reassurance I can give is that life tends to go on, and it probably will for some time. We have to tackle the barriers given to us in order to truely experience all that is potentially lost in time spent frustrated. Great poem, here.. perhaps some well needed venting? :)

Politicly correct is the word for today! You say it so well.

Certainly a poem for our post 9/11 times. The title fits Al Qaeda like a glove.
