the night

by Kimberly Bare

The night is still and quiet all around me.
But life is happening.
Somewhere someone is holding the one they love.
Somewhere someone is crying for the one they lost.
A young couple is making love for the first time.
An old couple sits on their porch remembering the first time.
A child is being born.
A mother is weeping from the death of a child.
A marriage proposal is being accepted.
A marriage of twenty-five years is falling apart.
People are laughing and living their dreams.
Others are crying and living in fear.
But, the night is still and quiet all around me.

Neat way of tying so many aspects of humanity together, with the common denominator of night. Would work with day also though not quite as effective me thinks. :o)

Great write. It acts as a sort of a kick in the pants for me, because I need to realize that life will always keep moving, even if I'm not. Reminds me of that famous line from Ferris Beuller's Day Off, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it." Great job, I love it! :)
