Symbiosis

by Karen Michelle

Constrained
by your push/pull
above me, beneath me
Restricted
as you cover me whole
Bathed
in this neon afterglow
of a blameless moon
we lay here, mute.

You've timed everything
to infinite perfection
right down to the last
hungry gasp of air
and if tomorrow comes too early
we'll miss the sunlight
in all its suffocating glory.

We are scarcely together
physically, as one
yet two fragments of souls
held apart by defiance

- it's time to let me in...

Superb poetics throughout, title well suited. I especially like the ring of "a blameless moon."
