Talking to You

by Ken Harnisch

You know, talking to you

I get the sense

You wish I didn’t care so much

You are, after all, so sane;

A practical mass

Someone very rooted in yourself

And it’s kind of embarrassing to know

Someone’s there to pick you up

Even when you never fall.

Well, I got news for you

I feel the same way

I twist my lips in awkwardness

Every time you tell me

That you know me well.

 I mean, be real,

Who wants to be known like that?

But this is also true

Secretly, I love the fact you do.

And Secret number two:

Don’t ever stop, no matter what I say.

Just as I’ll never stop for you.

i know what you mean about the initial feeling of dismay when someone says they have you all figured out. glad to see this truth brought out in a poem - i haven't gotten to the part of acceptance, even secretly, as you have ;) good psychological delving into loved-one-communication
