THANKFUL

by Melissa Arel

He had always been so kind to me
And I was selfish in my wretched ways
He spoke so calm and tenderly
But my first reaction was to push him away
I was confused and scared of what might happen
If I had willingly let myself give in
To someone who saw me as truly beautiful
No matter how badly I had treated him
But now my prodigal heart has returned
And I'm exactly where I wanted to be
I'm learning more to open myself
Showing him my deepest vulnerabilities
So as our relationship grows from friends to lovers
I'll hold his hand tight and he will see
All that I want is him and no other
Thankful he waited so patiently.

On Valentine's Day no less, must have been a good sign. Beautiful message, and nice rhyming too.

Beautiful insight into the confused mind of one who was afraid to commit, but then opens up and takes the chance. Very hopeful and honest. Great poem.

Solid-simple-sweet: a triple "S"! That's what you get for this one. Not many people achieve this on my rating system. (Mainly bc I just made it up.) Really though, I can relate to this as well. Jennie and I went through some of this.
