A Midnight Lullaby

by Melissa Arel

She turned her head and tilted it to the side
As she looked out the glass pane.
Step by step she moved toward the window
As her curiosity peaked with each gentle movement.
She sat down in the wooden chair
Brought her knees up to her chest,
And wrapped her arms around her legs.

Through the outline of the trees,
She saw the day settling into the evening.
Enhanced by the bright orange, yellow, red and pink
Slowly the sun melted away out of her vision
And all that remained was the sun's fingerprints.

As the night dawned and the colors faded,
A remnant of gold rested upon her brow
And a brush of rose layed upon her cheek.
Strands of amber crowned her hair,
Fragments of blue in her eyes.
The clouds hid themselves
Behind the wooden serenity
As the dark drape of black
Wrapped itself around the sky's shoulders.

She gazed at the sky
And saw the dusted silver lining of the moon
Glowing in its angelic orb
A whisper came through the leaves
As the wind sighed.
She closed her eyes as she soaked in
The poetic lyrics of love's quieted song.

Peace rested itself upon her forehead;
She kissed the night air
As it sang her a lullaby
Bidding her farewell
Until the day Love is awakened.

She sat still in the wooden chair
With her knees to her chest
And her arms embracing her legs
She tilted her head to the side, and dreamed.

Lovely color imagery. A young girl's voice, wistful by the evening window, with all that awaits her in womanhood. Beautiful in its simplicity

Listening to the subtle things that nature tells us is more important than we initially think. Great read that draws the reader closer to nature.

one off the shelf it may be , Mel..but it is still full of wonder and that color and light you bring to your poems like a painter does his or her canvasses....truly luminous and beautiful!
