A Pilgrim's Prayer

by Melissa Arel

Oh my God, my soul is dry and parched
my spirit - withered and dead
my heart is crying on its knees
and down low I hang my head.
Until the day I give my burdens
and place them in Your hand,
just know I haven't forgotten you, Lord
but I'm hurting and I'm trying as hard as I can.
I'll try to give my best to You
even if my best is not as it was before
but these eyes of mine have been crying to You,
they're so tired, weak and sore.
You won't settle for second place,
You want to be my desire
Oh Father, the passion has dimmed away
and Satan has put out the fire.
Restore my love and refine this vessel
once again I submit my will to You,
and when I acknowledge the beauty of Your presence
I'll have my long-awaited breakthrough.
So turn your face to heaven -
I command my eyes to see
Jesus is standing at the door of my heart
and knocking repeatedly.
You never did let me go
when I thought I was all alone
but Your arms embraced me and now I rejoice
in the midst of my empty sorrow.

Author's Note: This is an oldie! Wrote it when I was a different person, way back in '99.. sometimes its nice to see how far we've come along as people..

Faulkner said when the last ding-dong of doom is sounded, we will not only endure, we will prevail...you have Mel...you truly have.
