Growing Roots

by David R Spellman

The skies have wept often –
these humid days that feel like
rainforests, where new growths
emerge, enticed to blossom with
the kiss of every fallen drop.

In teasing mockery the sun taunts,
providing brief moments of respite
while trading assets with the earth;
withdrawing moisture as it claws
its warmth, sinking ever deeply into
the sunken marrow of melting bones.

And far off, timpani rumblings,
a prelude of orchestrated rhythms
blow upon the stirring winds
encoded with the promise of rain.

I sit and wait for the next act
absorbed in the cyclic flow
drenched with ponderous images,
nestled among the burrowing roots
which I have sent in search of
rumors whispering of sunnier days.

I love the musical tone of the imagery.

I love the way you mix the storm imagery with music terms. Great earthy verse that vividly describes the scene.

David, you make even rainy days have a silver lining! My favourite line is "trading assets with the earth." I can FEEL the humidity...

You've certainly caught the natural atmosphere of this summer in a colorful shower of words. I can see a rainbow through them. (The promise of no more destruction of the earth by floods! :) )

Highly pensive and moving to all David. Oh the humanity amid this horticultural jem. Excellent closure in those last few lines also.

The rhythmic flow you've incorporated accentuates the sense of nature throughout this articulate piece. My favorite line, 'In teasing mockery the sun taunts, providing brief moments of respite while trading assets with the earth; Atrfully done, Dave. Artfull indeed! Peace...

Now that is some good poetry writing. As it says, 'drenched with ponderous images.'
