Acorns In Parking Lots

by Charles J Hannan

Where oh where did that forest go
Mr. squirrel lived there
And so did old toad
Full of birds and plants and sneaky little snakes
I see now what those companies make

A day started out with the sound of the crows
And through the tall trees
You heard the wind blow
Chipmunks would dance in and out of the brush
But now it's all flat as a can that is crushed

With all these animals needing a home
No wonder they're dying
For somewhere to roam
It's hard for them to eat from our trendy little spots
Try foraging for acorns in open parking lots
