State of Man by Max BouilletJust below the angels?
Just above the animals?
Lineage from both and neither;
the offspring of Heaven
tainted with Hell.
Strange pathetic pets
attempting to sniff
the crotch of God.
Below the angels.
Above the animals.
I despise being the middle man.
Well, I guess it's better
than being below the animals,
unless of course, the angels
defecate.
I've heard it said
that man is spirit wrapped
in flesh and is
made in God's image.
If this is true,
are we vain enough? 08/06/2003 Posted on 08/06/2003 Copyright © 2026 Max Bouillet

| Posted by JD Clay on 08/09/03 at 06:26 PM Managerial poetry, Max. Now there is an interesting concept. When it comes to the state of man, howsoever, I'll settle for soCal, hehe!
Peace... |

| Posted by David R Spellman on 08/10/03 at 03:17 PM Thought provoking indeed, though in reality I think we are also above the angels but often prove by actions that we can be lower than animals. Good one Max. |
| Posted by Mara Meade on 08/11/03 at 01:35 PM Max, its poems like these that make those little concentration lines get deep in my forehead... this is very good because it can be applied to so many situations and still be appropriate... whoo! |
| Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 08/13/03 at 10:45 PM profound musing. Just think Max, if god hadn't created angels, we wouldn't be in this mess. but then again it did lead to poems. |
| Posted by Don Coffman on 08/14/03 at 08:35 AM You've got quite a talent for very thoughtful and philosophical poems, and always presented in a well written way. Great work on this one too, I wish my recent 'humanity poem' had been half as good as this at raising questions to think about. |
| Posted by Jean Mollett on 08/15/03 at 06:43 AM Hi Max,
State of Man, good one.
I guess ya could say like him, lovin, free from sins. God made from things like from earth to humans. And everything he made and gave was good. God made humans. But he doesn't make or cause their to make the choices they make. That up to eat person, whether right or wrong. Peace & Joy, Jean. |
| Posted by Karl Waldbauer on 08/17/03 at 11:35 PM Max, from the middle we can soar with the angels or commune with the animals, two gratifying activities, indeed. I find your insight a very welcomed inspiration. Thanks for philisophical workout! |
| Posted by Laura Doom on 12/16/07 at 08:33 PM ...or perhaps man is flesh, a reluctant host of spirit? (The cleansing of DNA, without which we'd be close to DOA :) Yet another exquisite inquisitorial excursion from you Max... |
