(chicago 01) birth in illinois by Andrew S Adamsmonuments on a barren landscape
a mcdonalds sign punctuates
the dull existance of a bumpy road..
where scribbles come in difficulty,
and the highways are marked in obscurity.
the trafic crawls-
we are virginal newborns.
fresh from the womb of wisconsin.
into the reality of illinois.
nothing changes but a toll;
as we crawl through the gates
we walk. we run.
monuments are rising in the distance,
as a roadsign reminds me of my distance from the world.
and, as the road forces me to reality
the speedbumps disrupt my handwriting,
i am being born again;
illinois. 08/02/2003 Author's Note: the first in my chicago saga.
