Safety in Silence

by Lacy D Phillips

hope found its native tongue
in a gentle touch
when no words wandered
between us
and love is only something
we create with it
in the awkward silence
between fear and faith
in a lull in the conversation
where we imagine ourselves safe
from reproach as well as praise

Author's Note: I found this piece buried in a bunch of electronic files unfinnished and without a title. I wanted to revamp it and give it a proper ending, but the more I read it, the more perfect and whole it seemed just by itself.

The poem is deep as much for what it screams as for the silence it captures. nice work. peace --bf

I'd have to agree that it's fine just the way it is - nicely said.
