stones of truth

by Beth K Hannah

infinite inside the moon
How ever does thou breathe?
I find myself skipping stones
Across the ocean between us
Each carries a message
Each a daydream of you
To you
Will you read them when they hit the shore?

Splash goes the first one
Encrypted on it is the memory of our first talk
Splash goes the second one
Filled with tales of my hearts love for you
Splash goes the third one
Weaving a sonnet about how I feel when you touch me
Thud goes the fourth one
As it hits the shore
I can’t see your reaction as you read it
Or hear your sighed response
I wait for the returning stone
But hear only the cry of the waves.
My tears mingle with the ocean
And I crawl back into my cave.
Spiraling into the oblivion of the heartsick.

it's like confession, you admit to everything...and it only reminds you of how horrible you feel about it. heart shattering my dear

I think Beth, that all lovers as all poets can identify with this unrequited stone. Wonderful work.
