Laughter of the Fireflies

by Oliver Drewman

As we scamper through the dewy grass
Intent upon one goal
The blinking tiny little lights
We want one just to hold
Our talk goes to a wisper
As we creep up on these things
For we know that they do hear us
Flashing, flying little wings
For whenever we get close
The disappear and fly behind
So we stealthly walk towards them
With their capture on our mind
They in turn are truely laughing
At our odd walked escapades
"Did you get one?" we are asking
As they perform their quick charade
So intent am I on searching
A moments hearing I suspend
I hear their wee small voices
A sound of laughter I portend
(Did you see that big one miss me?)
(Yeah I flew right by his ear!)
(That smaller child is so loud)
(It's a wonder they can hear)
So I turn and look and listen
For the words that I just heard
But they disappear like smoke
Just tiny laughter overheard

oh how enchanting *big grin* usually don't like rhymes but the subject matter lends itself well to rhyme here. and your title is very enticing too.
