Trinidad Poetry #2 (a song)

by Ginette T Belle

He said I don't wanna see your face around here
Go down and drink your whisky by the river, you can drown there
So your wife and kids left you, do you think I care
When the cloak of darkness greets you, you have nothing to fear

He is lost between the buildings as he stumbles home
'Til he stops and realizes he has nowhere to go
"50 years of blood, sweat and tears, I have nothing to show
Who's the man who said you always reap what you sow

{chorus}
And it was about a quarter past three
When you couldn't shed your mercy on me

Disturbing, catchy lyrics. Stands well as a poem in its present form.
