walk the plank

by Michele Schottelkorb

crystal fingertips tap at the old stain

beckoning your torn heart again

no rest for the weary

tear-soaked eyes are bleary

droplets of shame fall like the rain

it happened a long time ago

this abyss, was it friend or foe?

your veins keep on throbbing

the clown’s face is bobbing

it hurts, so it must be so

step out on the ledge, my dear

don’t worry, we’ll catch you, no fear

ha, you are naïve

drain your throat like a sieve

be careful, the demon is near

shall she walk the plank of madness

with a life full of anger and sadness?

or will she relent

her worries hell sent

and cover her pain up with gladness?

started june 2003… still working on it

Good use of rhyme to deliver the message. Love the title/concept also.
