A Bridge of Time by Ken HarnischFog has its moments
But sweet solace needs the sunlight
And I need you.
It is somehow
Not permitted to say this aloud
But these strong, unspoken cables
Hold up a bridge of time that still
Only you and I have crossed
And if
We were to reach that raging river
Of quiet despair again, sometime
In our lives, I think you would find
I am still the only one who will hear your
Heart beat under the waterfall of your living soul
And I know you will be the only one
Who hears me as the water roars
Defiance down in the gorges below 07/17/2003 Posted on 07/17/2003 Copyright © 2025 Ken Harnisch

Posted by Agnes Eva on 07/18/03 at 06:31 PM it's a vivid scene, this bridge and the turmoil both under it and on it |
Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 05/12/07 at 05:15 PM It's amazing when emotion and language can build a bridge like this... a seamless strand that is as real as the feelings it expresses. That center stanza as a bridge between the directness of the first, and the descriptiveness of the last, acknowledges the iner stream between you two, built of time and silence, I know this well, and you have written it so well. This is the kind of thing that feels "identified" rather than constructed, that "bridge" --it is there, you just gave it a name. Wonderful. |
