subtle pushing

by Michele Schottelkorb

if You hate me

let me go

if it’s over

say it’s so

if You can’t

take one more day

then pack my bags

no more play

if You like me

we’ll be friends

if You care

we’ll meet the ends

if You can

still smile at me

we’ll raise our daughter

separately

if You love me

You must act fast

don’t let me leave

please make this last

for once I’m gone

I’m gone for good

You know this well

You know I could

(You helped me the last time

You know I would)

I like how each stanza progresses... from hate, to like, to love

the heavens can hear this plea and they would answer what fool be one to allow such an angel to leave.
