Oscar by Alan MahoodOscar was talking barbeque and
Singing "...Is you is or is you ain't
My baby..." last I saw him
Not knowing that would be my question
To you and
The inspector looked at me like I was
From Venus 'cause I didn't come out of
The rain,
"You can stand over there" he said but
He didn't know I was hoping to have
The memories and dreams and tears
Washed away like so much dust on
The sidewalk during a thunderstorm
In Texas
Maybe there's a gutter and a storm
Drain that can hold hopes
Shattered and yet not explode like
A dike during Noah's flood
I didn't expect the answer
"...Is you ain't my girl."
