distance :: distance by Andrew S Adamsdistance across distance feels like a
breakdown of everything that was once
so true that it couldnt be wrong. everything
eventually hits a wall, hits a collapse.
and every now and again, i beat my head
on this very wall, trying to smash my way through.
sometimes i succeed in chipping away at everything
holding this apart, and sometimes i find
i'm breaking apart just like you are.
but, whereever we break, there is always
a feeling that we are not beyond repair.
whatever we feel, there is a chance that
we will triumph, and forget there ever was a wall.
and i know that feeling how we do tonight,
at the lowest of what seems to be a never-ending
vacancy of light, there is always the chance that
a spark will emerge. that a hope will come flying by,
if we wait. if we hold on. sometimes, it seems that it is pointless
to endure this kind of restlessness,
but tonight i see a hope.
tonight i feel a feeling so close by,
and you are looking upwards for
the wings of a dove or a sign from something
greater. but i say, look deep into my eyes.
look where only you can see; the place held
deep inside of you. the hope and dream
eminating from this sanctuary, dim as it may be
can light a fire. you've lit a fire in me;
watch slowly as we warm ourselves together,
watch slowly as we find out who we are.
whatever wall there ever was,
we will burn it down. 07/04/2003 Posted on 07/04/2003 Copyright © 2025 Andrew S Adams
