No Ink

by Charles J Hannan

My pen
Laughing at my pain
For no ink is lost tonight
Only meadiocre thoughts
Carried on hairline fractures
Splintering under stress

Writer's block
Under Maginot line like defense
Waging war on my tattered brain
An offense still in the womb
Complicated strategies
For a novice at peacetime

Blank parchment
Silently finds the exit
A side window with fire escape
And I left alone
Expressionless in fact
While the pen still laughs

I really like this, especially the last stanza. Anyone who has gone through writer's block will sympathize!!

I hate those nights when the pen taunts me. Your poem captures that moment perfectly.

Interesting and unique view of writer's block. Personally, I go through periods of not writing anything new, but no longer worry about it; just part of the cycle. :o)
