There's a long distant loneliness
Unfolded across the miles
Just a fleeting memory
Of her face and of her smile
The way her eyes stayed closed
After each ending of our kiss
As if to say don't stop
And that, I truly miss

Holding hands meant something
When we walked along the street
Everyone new we were together
There were no secrets to keep
I was hers, and she was mine
Give me those days again
The two of us for all time
I thought would never end

Wasted years and so many tears
Tell me what went wrong
All I have are my memories
All I had is gone

Your poem expresses well how a love lost can open our eyes or help us savor the sweet moments.

it's like it suddenly slipped away from your grasp. A tragic experience, universal but no less tragic when it hits one person or two. Beautiful.
