sadie j by Emily G Myerssadie j
born the same day
deepdeepdeep&dark
brown skin&eyes
comfortable
smile as
innocent
& beautiful
as her
littlegirlness
long legs
she'll be taller
than her brother
not a
huge
task
but his
sadie j
was born
the same day
she smiles
& stakes her claim
finally
a girl who knows
what it is to love
06/13/2003 Author's Note: She popped up as a huge challenge, this four-year-old. Yeah, even four-year-old girls can teach us lessons. In my mind she stands as a testament to family love. I was automatically an enemy cause I'm that other girl her brother loves. And that just wouldn't work for her. She made it clear right away ("dis is my Ewic") where the lines were. Girls tend to do that... four-years-old and older.

Posted by Agnes Eva on 06/18/03 at 09:05 PM great poem topic. that's some 4yr old sister! perhaps a direct reference to '4 year old sister' in the poem would enrich it with the meaning that your author's comment does...? good work. |
