Leaning Towards the Vantage Point by Trisha De Gracia
I see
people passing
I see the masses of minds
just begining to grow
and daily I wonder
where they've came from
what life has drudged them through
so far.
Girls and boys and endless sagas
meaningless whitenoise
in each six minute time frame
to get from class to class.
I take it all in
to analyze.
Sometimes I wonder what people,
people who have lived through so much
face so much every day
really think about the girls
who concern themselves all too much
with prettyness and boys.
The ones who are grateful to be getting an education
grateful to have friends here and there
grateful even to be breathing
must laugh in amusement
or cringe in disgust
at guys too concerned with superficial
thisandthat.
...and even through it all
as my fingers write the sounds of my head
I'm fixing my hair in the mirror
while I think of the next line.
Ironic?
yup.
Shameful?
you'd think so.
somehow I'm not so ashamed...
maybe it's just human nature
or "how the world works"
maybe it's just that you tend to grow out of it
time goes on and so does life
and you realize there's more to it than that
maybe some just get a dose of reality earlier
for better or worse, I suppose.
Perhaps it's just a perspective.
Yes, that's it.
it's all in how you see it
where you stand
and when you look.
Sometimes I wish
for a moment
that I could take one step to the left
to see how the world changes
when you're stepping on a different ant.
