The Power of Change

by Megan Langley

The driving force behind Time.
Its power of change,
Where it all begins.
The person you once knew has
Evolved into some brand-spanking new,
Totally different human being.
The blessing of your
Five natural senses has become your only tool,
Like your own personal magnifying glass,
For recognizing this individual.
Although the outer edges may become rough and worn,
The real truth is within the inner core.
It's so invisible, so clear, so transparent
That WHAM!
The change has occurred within that millisecond between
Vision and darkness in the blink of an eye.
But what's even more breathtaking than this developing lifeform is
The absence of change.
Yes, feelings change.
A feeling can begin as an insignificant speck
Clutching to your soul
And expand into a massive tumor of built-up emotions.
But it's when this dense mass can no longer sustain growth,
Yet, cannot burst, despite your attempts to puncture it,
That the absence of change becomes apparent.
It just remains, silent, motionless, malignant,
And will never change but just remain.
Time cannot take its toll
And you try to accept it
But will always fail greatly
Because it resides forever just below the flesh
Irritating every nerve surrounding its painful memories.

Author's Note: It's been a really long time since I've written anything... Anyways, I hope this poem speaks for itself as to why I wrote it.

quite a powerful nexus of feeling you describe there. sometimes poems sit in us the same way, we can't write, but one day out comes this tightly worded mass. nice job
