fractured melody

by Rhyana Fisher

once i knew how to dance
light and graceful
a child of air
til the day unnoticed watchers
laughed and jeered
pretendings came tumbling down

ugly and heavy
bound to earth
i dance alone now
hidden so none can see
fearing to be noticed
contained
neither light nor free
frozen and sharp

sometimes the sky cries
tears she saved from that long ago day
but i can not
and i've forgotten why it mattered

sad. i like how dance can be interpreted as something as you used to like a lot, but are now confined to doing alone/hidden because of people's negative reactions.

Somber but well presented poem. Dance on even if you must do it alone now.

You've caught in perfection the reaction of children when they realize someone is watching them sing or dance. Pity such pure innocence cannot stay. Lovely, sad poem.

well...dancing is a way to escape reality....even in a crowd one dances alone...because it's a very intimate thing...me, I become part of the universe dancing...block out all surroundings and become non-influencible! So dance on!!

'bound to earth i dance alone now', thats the curse every INDIVIDUAL has to live up to. The burden of being a self conscious being is a bit heavy.
