corporate star (.versions.) by Andrew S Adamsstarting at it's ascent from zero
the stars slowly show their face.
one, two, three, four
close to the summit,
there are those i retrace-
and i am left
to start from a new,
discouraged end.
have you ever tried to embody
all that the sky can posess?
as i did, you will too lose yourself
and enslave yourself to the sky.
the night is so grand,
my grasp will reach just short of the bounds.
catching every star i could,
but i let some through to meet the ground-
a fading glimse of you
shooting away from me.
Just as i tried to find you,
i placed my eye on your hand.
as i tried to grab, it burned,
and i could not understand.
counting was a mundane reflex
and i had no care after you slipped.
but, i kept in my motion, as
i hoped you would suprise me
hidden among them.
alas, the sky is shrouded in darkness,
for you had fallen for good-
and, because of my doing,
the sky would not know your light
ever again.
One, two, three, four. all the stars i count
are straight from the mold, so corporate,
conformed and alike.
individuality has no voice,
due to my errant choice.
and you, oh star of individuality
the choice i never made
is now filling my with the darkness
of an empty sky. 05/20/2003 Posted on 05/20/2003 Copyright © 2025 Andrew S Adams
