Moontime Girl by Julie Adams
love kicks my ass again
and again and ...
faithful textbook victim
fall gal returns for more
hungry for war; hungry for pure
of heart
neither pride nor prejudice
can release the cosmic cycle
washing through me internally
bleeding leaking fermenting merlot
it has me drunk; under
middle age
constant as moontime
I suck the marrow of love
from the iridescent bone above--
bind me into submission
faithful 20-something mistress
in star-studded midnight boots
like vampires to blood
sometimes prey falls predator; marauder
flamenco dancing with fate
hunger turns numb
like bruises
and though I flinch
at the touch of love
I cannot relinquish
the possibility

Those phrases just made me shiver at the base of my spine. Lovely. |

Killer stanza. Just tops. Made my whole frigging day, really. |
