changeling by Rhyana Fishershhhhhh, the wind warns
but the sky still calls
we wait, child, find us
spread tattered wings
fragile membranes envy torn
forced into their form
tied to ground forevermore
but i escaped
they will not win
i refuse to let them
they tried to steal my heritage
you will never soar again
whispered smugly
as they caged a body broken
but they cannot bind hearts
my thoughts flew free
for the sky remembers
her daughter stolen
mangled wings
must hang in shreds
too damaged to carry me
to dizzying heights
but there are still dreams
hung in the tree tops
it is enough to fly again
out of range

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/03/03 at 02:58 PM I really like this poem, both for its successful expression of subject (quite moving) and syntax/imagery; some great lines throughout. I especially like that second last stanza. |

Posted by Rommel Cruz on 05/04/03 at 01:56 PM Lovely. I relate this to people to flying out and reaching for their dreams no matter how many obstacles they face, how many times they fail, and how many people tell them they cant do it. "there are still dreams hung in the tree tops" I really love those lines a lot. very nice =)
