Rosy Days

by Sam Roberts

It was one of those days,
mournful and showery.
With your head stuck out the window, ignoring the light
And a pastel sketching out a footpath, waiting for us to follow it.

But we stayed still, our mind sticking to our thoughts.
with the sprinkles of water landing tenderly on our heads.

“But life can be rosy sometimes, quite pretty” a boy said to me.
I ignored him and listened quietly
to the beat of my heart, a rhythm so dead on perfect
in contrast, to the pulse of the summer rain.

And at night I was happy, with the will to sit in the meadow.
Airless and dry with a leaf stuck to my foot,
colourfully curling around the edge of my lace,
staining my shoe with blotches of pain.

To slash myself with the muddy grass,
the tip of it’s tail, digging into my eyes.
“Be optimistic, think rosy!
flush your face with crimson and smile”

Author's Note: Me and Dean, same side of a coin people would think..this is a contrast of our personalities and how we both look at life..He is far too optimistic. (The quotes are real and said by dean) stay beautiful x

Two views dramatically contrasted here with an edge given to the pessimistic I think. I particularly liked the line, "staining my shoe with blotches of pain" --very effective symbolism.
