Blood Moon

by Traci Mabats

Is that a balloon in the sky?
No, that is the moon.
Why is the moon so big and round?
Because the moon is full.

Is that the sun?
No, that is the moon.
Why is the moon red?
She is blushing.
Why is the moon blushing?
Because the sun has seen her bare.

Is that a ghost?
No, that is the moon.
Why is the moon so pale?
She is pale from terror.

Is that a madman in the dark of night?
No, that is the moon.
The moon is grinning.
No, the moon is waning.

Is that a monster among the stars,
with a glowing eye?
No, that is the moon.
Why is the moon glowing?
The moon does not glow;
she merely reflects.

Is that the end of the world?
No, that is the moon.
Why is the moon, oh..the moon,
The moon has turned to blood.

Author's Note: First poem I ever wrote, I was about 16. Ive been told its a bit creepy, but its not supposed to be creepy like children of the corn (thank you Mr. Morris) but more creepy end of the world, book of Revelations type thing.

I get the whole Revelation-based theme. Nice job.

incredible imagery... written at sixteen or not, this poem reflects a multitude of emotion... i dig it... although, i've always liked the darker side of writing... this has great flow and the form takes you from one spot to another brilliantly... blessings...
