Dear God

by Kate Demeree

Dear God

There were tears upon her pillow
She had cried herself to sleep
Where were the words now
The promises he’d keep
As I watched her sleeping
My heart was very moved
She had truly loved him
Although I had not approved
The day that she went to him
Had given him her all
On that very same day
Had come the trumpet call
Now she has his child
A spark within her womb
As he lays quiet
Deep within the tomb
God please bless her slumber
Help her to find release
Till she can join her lover
And you can bring her peace
