Thoughts on Adolesence by Amy NiggelWelcome to the perils
of the 'best' years of your life
when everything
you thought you knew
will be questioned
your heart
will be broken
your self image
will be shattered
your self esteem
will be extinguished
you will turn to others
to define yourself
who you are
what you stand for
all those other
tricky little questions
you'll let your world dictate
how you look
how you act
who you like
who you hate
so these
are the 'best' years of your life?
then what pray tell
are the worst?
in infancy
are we insecure?
in geriatrics
are we gender conscious?
only in adolesence are we aggrevated
as in adulthood
we are assimilated
to the differences
which exist
in race, class, creed, and sex
the best years of our lives?
well maybe the best at teaching us,
to have prejudice
against others
and more over
against ourselves. 04/21/2003 Posted on 04/21/2003 Copyright © 2025 Amy Niggel
