Sonnet # 2

by Ken Harnisch

I loved you as mad as I ever will

Anyone, and you ruined me for all

Who came thereafter, though they did no ill

Except to follow your sordid footfalls
Across the years where I fed my heart

A diet of love and poetry, and belief

It would be alright if I did my part

And just loved you, giving you no grief

In return, but it wasn’t enough, in the end.

And I was told it was wisdom to taste

The dust in my mouth, the ash that burned

In my dry throat. Instead, I went to waste

While bright burned the flame inside my glass

Never forgetting you, first light to last

Author's Note: Inspired, as are all these numbered sonnets, by actual events that transpired long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away... Thanks to the departed Pags for the re-write advice..:)

Excellent writing, although sad.. but such is life and love. You are a master of words :)

Some parts of this made me want to sit down and cry... when it began the poem was hot and firey, by the end of it I was sad.... Great poem, and you sure do know how to write heart and soul. Funny isn't it how, some loves are unforgetable.
