The Little Fawn

by Charles J Hannan

Mother and I went shopping for a pet
Since we already had a dog
The choice was a cat
So we set out to the animal shelter
Somewhere in Jackson, Mississippi
Where we lived for a year
(which is another story alltogether)
When we got there
Mom let me pick him out
As I looked among the felines
Out from the back room
Came a brown and white streak
A little fawn rescued
From the side of a busy highway
(his mother had gotten hit by a car)
And under my legs this baby deer ran
Standing beneath me, shaking
He must have sensed my innocence
Because I definately felt his
I couldn't believe my eyes
This little fawn
And I
Connecting for a moment
Until the personnel rounded him up
Carrying him back.....

We got the grey tabby
The one I picked out
But all I wanted
Was that little fawn

those special connections don't need to last long to be felt a lifetime ;) Great read:)
