Suicide Waters

by Trisha De Gracia

Take me
Make me
Break me

let me touch the surface
then just push me down again
drown me in it
let me take it all
and let me know
How shipwrecks feel
at the bottom of the ocean.
Take my body
and bury it there
and never let me go
I never want to feel
this way again
but just for now-

bring me to the edge
do not love me
push me over
make me feel
what they all felt
when it took them in this way.
Let me breathe
only to scream
and let me scream
just for the music
to lullaby your guilty conscience
as it sleeps at night.

Make me the entity
that is my deepest darkest fear.

give me death
give me pain
give me truth.

i have to say that the following lines are an absolute gem, a moment of brilliance in a good poem, i think you get to the deepest inside of a suicide thought with this: "let me know / How shipwrecks feel / at the bottom of the ocean" <--that's superb. (some poems i feel are more like vehicles for that one truly insightful phrase within)
