No Promises

by Kate Demeree

No Promises

I can not promise to never hurt you,
Loves darts sometimes go unknown,
I can offer you a safe harbor
When you need to shelter from life's storm
Two arms to hold you, that are willing,
A heart that is warm
To be your playmate
Your lover, more importantly
To be your friend
Share your laughter
Lovingly shoulder your tears

Perhaps together we can find
The courage to lay to rest
Hurts, ghosts of the past
I am as afraid as you are,
Not sure if either of us
Is capable of that leap of faith
So let's take baby steps, enjoy
The journey along the way
Be each others comfort
Dry each other's tears
Live our lives
Take a chance
On love

Author's Note: This one was here before, there are alot of things that affect our lives, but I think Love is the greatest of them. There are indeed no promises.

Your last few lines speaks for the central idea of this poem. Yes, in the course of 'The journey along the way''take baby steps'( cautious and smooth) 'dry each other's tears'( develop understanding), 'live our lives'( the developing relationship should be the part of our lives and not the other way round)and 'take a chance on love'. A mature approach to love. hahaha
