Cheryl: on dining in

by Andrew S Adams

little cardboard skeletons
like a tiny little doggie bag home
with the cheap wire for a handle
ah, this is life, to go.
you would never think so much joy
could come from a little bit of food
but doused sweet and sour and some soy
sauce makes it all just taste so good.
but this is not the real thing
this is not what makes it great.
the food is only good when there
is you as the main course to the
chinese take-out side dish.

hidden behind four giant walls
the corner of a matress waits
for you and the food and me right there
anonymous without a face-
just like your dream said-
eating take-out with some faceless guy
in the corner of a room on a baren bed

and dining in never tasted so wonderful.

Hmm, making take-out seductive. I love it Andy!
