Summer Rain

by Thomas K. Hunt

An army of drops marches across the horizon
Sending out sprinkles to prepare the way
Within minutes darkness overtakes us
Heavy rain wets the day

Lightning flashes in bolts that streak
Thunder crashes in its wake
Sheets of pearls bounce on the streets
Gutters flood with all they can take

Trees bend in its fury
Their leaves shine with wet
People run in a scurry
Avoiding puddles without success

Barefooted children prance and dance
Heads back mouths open wide
Drink in the tears from heaven
While they're told to get inside

As quick as it had started
It's over with a calm
The freshness wafts the air
A summer rain has come and gone

i think i also read a "summer rain" poem earlier. it's very different from this though since it was a bit "romantic". Really descriptive.

There is nothing like a summer rain in Florida..went there once when I was a child and I will never forget it...how fast it came and went..and swinging on the long palm leaves too!
