Silk Chains

by Charlie Morgan

Silk Chains

Oh, doe-eyed woman
owner of the kiss-of-death
of our hearts' freedom.

You of milk-face or brown-stone skin
who can slay the beating
heart of a lion.

Easier to catch the moonlight
than forget your smiles
for white-hot are the memories.

Samsons, we are 'till your breath
warms our faces with
words of love.

Then weak we become
as new-born lambs
with yearns unmentioned.

We name each day
as another tribute
to you.

You are not mine,
as no man's
can you be.

Everywoman you are
and fallow are men
ever-wanting.

Not a goddess to idolize
yet words are moot,
for you birthed
all of mankind
in a likeness
of shoulds.

Charlie, the title of this poem is so appealing, and I guess each woman has inside of her a bit of Delilah and temptress. For each - male and female - the weakness is there, just as is the strength in love. Your words weave a vivid tale of seduction and necessity of life.

More of a myth than a ms then...so contrived, yet it 'sounds' authentic - a slice of pleasure to be savoured...

Well done Charlie....Charlie

A fine POTD! Love the title - you carry the style through consistently - mythical, biblical, ancient, enduring.

This poem is perfectly titled, Charlie. Oh how I like the way you parlay words. Your exquisite tribute to the femme fatale, befitting this Poem of Today. Congratulations, dear Sir!

You write beautiful words Charlie. Some woman has her "Silk Chains" wrapped around your heart. Lucky Girl!!

We can all use this to woo some women, Bruddah! The truth in this I like is that respect for the feminine coupled with the animal that is the human, the wanton desire of man meshed with the subtle hand, making it love.
