Breaking Rank by A.M. DemarcoShe, still being open to spontanous connections
searched for my eyes over the dividing bench.
Rather than pretending not to notice
I smiled electric-blue,
and a whizflash look of excitment spread
from ear to ear.
From one island-table to the next
we exchanged peekaboos
as she posed Kilroy style,
her brown mop top half a beat
be
hind her head
every time she popped into open view ecstacy.
"Sit DOWN and eat your food!"
The parental gods spoke
and -defenseless- we obeyed.
She went back to food she forgot to taste,
and I to a letter I didn't intend to finish.
As bitter they and playful she
rose to leave me as a memory,
her parents avoided eye contact.
But she, she let loose an infectous "Bye-bye!"
as she clutched her wave to me. 03/03/2003 Author's Note: On meeting a lovly young lady in cafe safe-haven.

Posted by Andrew S Adams on 03/28/03 at 04:24 AM you simply write wonderfully. it took me a minute to get the 'ear to ear' part of it, but this is fabulous. |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 09/13/03 at 05:06 PM The impression seems beautiful. This poem is the proof. |
