SCARECROW

by Melissa Arel

Watching the fields catch on fire, I catch myself just watching

Wanting to be among the harvest

Burning deep inside with a drink of the flames

But instead I’ve compromised myself to just look

And pretend I am a part of the sweeping move

When in truth I’ve felt safe enough to not let go

And scared enough to not release my fears

I’ve fallen desperate

Crying out to the sky to take me down and tear me up

To come in and give me a brain so I can know Him better

Come in and give me a heart that I can love Him better

Give me a life that I can serve Him better

I’ve been waiting for the rain when

I should’ve been looking for the wind.
