Burns

by Derek Gregory

Soul screams.
Brain burns.
Anguish pounds places
I never expected.
Hate fills every little void
created by the chipping away at my sanity.
Solace and refuge never comes
only my head filled by
more chipping and grinding.

Author's Note: I wrote this while standing what the navy calls a fire watch, the person watchs a welder and if the ship catches on fire you put the little fire out. My ship was in the shipyards and industrial work was being done all around me.

Great expression of a familiar feeling.

I like the descriptiveness of mental illness in this.
