...and out like a lamb.

by Allan Haslinds

Light dapples across my brain
before my body shrugs off her blankets.
Quick thoughts of the April day ahead blossom
as the morning coffee percolates down through my limbs,
struggling with stiff fingers to loosen knots
tied during a long winter nap.

The ruddy morning gleams off the tarnished brass pull
of the second drawer of the dresser.
Was it just last Tuesday that lit the way
for the porcelain lion, striding along the bureau-top,
casting its garishly fierce silhouette in sharp relief
across a walnut-grained veldt?

*softly smiling*..... you know I can just see it. "ruddy morning" "garishly fierce silhouette" I think are my favorite immages in this piece.

Great little piece, wonderful images...struggling with loose fingers to loosen knots...sounds like everymorning for me...just blurrs.

The closest to a painting I think a poem can get to. I can see the picture in my mind.
