Latitudes (Edited and re-posted) by Ronald A PavellasMan has created invisible lines on Mother Earth To distinguish between those places Deemed "ours" and "theirs."
Such conceits pale when one considers that EarthÂ’s creatures behave according to their arrangement: Easterly, westerly, across the longitudes
For instance, the trees and plants in Lappland Are the same trees and plants as in Alaska; Similar clothing, buildings and customs among the people.
So, let us have countries defined by Nature: The north and south latitudes, arctic, temperate and tropical, With enclaves of mountain and desert people.
Such arrangements will dissolve The angry invisible lines between peoples, As we unify by our response to Nature and Earth. 03/09/2003 Author's Note: Aboard a train from Kiruna to Stockholm, Summer 2000

| Posted by Glenn Currier on 03/13/03 at 04:49 AM I never thought of the unity of humans and Earth in this manner. It occurred to me that so often the scythes of power cut down the longtitudes to plunder those below. Your poem invites me to see it another way. Great poem, Ron. |
